In our time, with its increased attention to human rights in the area of biomedicine, changes in the system of health care and appearance of new biomedical technologies, use of which brings out numerous legal and ethical problems, a special treatment is given to training, re-training and professional development of relevant specialists and conduct of scientific research in the area of medical law. In order to achieve effective solutions to the above tasks, a new structural unit was created at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv – Education and Research Centre for Medical Law (the Centre). The Centre is called upon to become the flagman of the medico-legal education and science in Ukraine, the development of which is supported by glorious traditions of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and by the best local and international experience. The aim of the Centre is to influence the realization of the national policy in the area of health care and of the national legal policy via the method of training and methodological provision, re-training and professional development of relevant specialists in the area of law, health care and other areas with relation to medical law, and, also, by conducting scientific work in the area of medical law. Development directions and main tasks are identified as the aim of the Centre’s work and are as follows: Education and methodological work Professional development of specialists in medical law Research Scientific support of legal provisions for the development of the system of healthcare and of the conduct of medical and pharmaceutical activities Development of international academic connections in the area of medical law
