Hope for Children With Rare Diseases In Ukraine, rare diseases have become a serious public health concern. Clinical management and rehabilitation of patients has placed serious strain on the Ukrainian healthcare system. Due to many economic and political difficulties, low gross national product levels and ongoing healthcare reforms, provision with drugs and funding highly specialized healthcare services are severely limited for the orphan patients. Public funding for these specialized clinical management and rehabilitation programs for people with rare diseases is scarce. The awareness and public health initiatives on rare diseases are very low. These diseases are often life threatening or chronically disabling conditions. Medications used to treat these diseases are unique and often expensive. At least 30% of patients with a rare disease die in childhood. The stigmas associated with rare diseases, often bring about isolation and enables for the discrimination of a group that urgently needs the attention and the support of their communities. Our mission is to raise awareness among the general public, concerning all rare diseases. And to assist the organizations serving patients and families affected by rare diseases, to improve and prolong the lives of these patients.
